I was on aquabid.com looking at the fish auctions and I saw this one for "unknown darter species". Can anyone who is good with IDs identify it? I hope it's not endangered or anything. If it is we can e-mail them and let them know so they avoid collecting and selling it in the future.

The collector's location is Detroit, Michigan zip code 48201.

I checked http://mnfi.anr.msu....imals.cfm#grp14 and I don't think it's any of the darters on there, but I'm no expert. And still the idea of someone selling something so vaguely bothers me. If we can ID it and tell them what it is that would be cool.

That's reassuring, some dude selling an "unknown darter". I'd guess he's a very knowledgeable guy......

Yeah, I love those vendors who put a pic & no other information at all about what they're selling. Really makes me wanna buy from them even more.

..............& Michigan lists 3 species of darters as threatened and 1 as endangered.

There is nothing you can really do but use the "Report" function and let the admin take a look at it. The owner/admin of AB comes on here every now and then, usually when we do report something to him.

I would say Iowa darter is the most likely. They can be locally common here in Michigan. They are not on any list, but it still grinds on me that they couldn't be troubled to ID it before trying to make a buck.
