Just showed up, probably in a shipment of Rosy Reds we get from Arkansas.

That is a "Rosy red" also known as Fathead minnows..Pimephales promelas

Yup, fathead minnow. Looks like a male coming into spawning mode. The rosy red is a color morph of the fathead.

yep I agree too it's a fathead. Rosey reds are a color morph of fathead minnows that lack any dark pigments, this is a widespread color morph and ocurs in many species. I think I talked about this under another thread but realy don't know where. I have some pictures of redbreast sunfish that are this color morph in the NANFA photo galery if you want to see another species. Just look under Brian zimmerman, thats me, in the gallery.

Thanks all, that is what I thought originally, but then I looked through Peterson's Freshwater fish and decided it didn't fit the description well enough.

It also doesn't behave like the others in the ponds, maybe because it was separated and put into an aquarium, it seems much more aggressive toward other fish.

It's probably a male wanting to spawn with someone if it's being territorial.
