Please identify your album with your name / forum id to maintain order. If anyone wants a specific parent album, say "NANFA Conventions", please let me know and I can do so.
I will no longer be activating accounts on the older NANFA Gallery and users should try to migrate their pictures here.
Let me know of any problems and we'll work through them.

I was also able to create (with some confusion on my part) sub galleries under my main gallery and move pictures around a little. I would recommend that you upload pictures only into your main gallery at first until you get the hang of creating sub galleries and moving pictures around a little.

Is there a way to transfer my pictures from http://gallery.nanfa...rs/EricaWieser/ to http://forum.nanfa.o...ilberti/ other than uploading every single one from my computer's harddrive?
Unfortunately no. The other gallery isn't going away anytime soon so you can transfer them slowly.

but I have 418 items...
Is the old gallery going to eventually be deleted?

I would hope not. People have put a lot of work (uploading, organizing, naming, etc) into some of those. They also get a ton of traffic. One of the best things about NANFA online IMO.

I don't see why the one associated with the NANFA homepage has to be consolidated with images on the forum.

It's not just the traffic. The layout, level of customization, and nesting of albums is superior than any other gallery. Better than Flickr, and far better than this new one on the forum. If you couldn't tell, I cherish everything about the official/original one. I love seeing the layouts people use (taxonomy, state-based, trip-based, etc, etc), and the control you have over the naming, details, size options, and album sizes are second to none.
I don't see why the one associated with the NANFA homepage has to be consolidated with images on the forum.
I'm starting to realize this Blake. I guess it was wishful thinking that it would be capable of replacing the existing Gallery.
It may turn out that the old Gallery stays but maybe in a different capacity where we require the layout that you've described. And maybe that will be our "Pictorial ID" reference.

Yay! I vote for that. With 418 items (whose original files are scattered on an assortment of different hard drives) it would take me forever to save my pictures from the current gallery and upload them to a new one. So hearing that the old gallery may stay makes me really happyIt may turn out that the old Gallery stays

It was challenging to figure out but once i did ( like Blake noted ) it was very customizable and i took full advantage of that.
I did an extensive report for the 2011 Virginia Convention ( though i do not think many people have looked at it or perhaps not even aware of it ). I assembled it in chronological order, with sometimes extensive captions of the various activities including some of the activities afterwards like the canoe the New trip. I invested a lot of time trying to make it organized, smooth and interesting... and it was generally fun doing so.
I do not know of any other accounts of your convention by the way.
But i do not know the complexities and issues on your end and have to trust your final judgement. I can adapt.

EDIT: Just noticed new "Gallery Archive" option at top... does this mean we can go back and edit the old gallery?

I don't even post photos frequent enough to keep people coming back, yet somehow images I host up get 50 views in just a couple of weeks. This leads me to believe that I can't be the only one in love with it. The gallery format of Flickr and a lot of other websites are so poor that I rarely find myself taking the time to wade through them. They also lock the user out of most levels of customization; in fact, you can't even do the simplest of things like bold or italicize font.
I visit many of the galleries on a weekly basis (Uland, Dave, Lance, Casper, Nate, Brian, etc, etc) in hopes of newly uploaded items, and I think a lot of other people do the same. It works, and it works well. That being said, I do understand the want for a gallery of forum-related photos.

I think some of the point here was to lighten Drew's load. This may not be the ideal format, but lets give it some time. I also looked through my last AC, and maybe I missed it, but did not see Drew mentioned as forum host/administrator. Seems odd that someone who puts in so much work is not credited. Lets cut some slack, and see how this plays out.
I was stating how much I like the old gallery, and nothing more. If you taking anything I wrote as being 'hard/tight' on Drew, then you missed my intentions. I guess I don't know how much work goes into maintaining a gallery online, but I would be happy to help out. I certainty spend enough time online. If this is too much work for Drew, then not only should he bring attention to it, but also recruit help to aliquot the load. I know the forum takes an enormous amount of work, but I can't imagine maintaining a gallery would require much.

No Blake, I was not referring to you at all. It seems quite a few are uncomfortable with the change, and I am only saying lets give it some time, let Drew work his magic, and see how it turns out. I apologize if it seemed that I was directing it at you, as I certainly was not. Just feel that we should remain calm, and see what transpires.
Sorry for the miscommunication. Yes, I do see your overall point. Drew announces a new, additional feature of the forum, and most response thus far has been negative (even after the first day or so, which is unjustified and impatient). Note that I only peeped up when there was discussion of the old gallery being removed.
I'm also looking forward to seeing what the new gallery blossoms into, and in no way trying to impede it's progress.

I won't comment on how much I like the gallery just because it's difficult with the current tools to manage properly. Do what needs to be done Drew and thanks for maintaining it!
At least 390 views on your album Casper. That's what...four~six times the number of attendees and better than 3/4 of the total NANFA membership?

What kind of time commitment is it to maintain a group of "invited" users to maintain the old gallery as you suggested, a identification site?
So perhaps the answer is both? Blake has articulated what I like about the gallery. If I am able to spend any time with images, I'd prefer it'd be adding to the gallery and not moving things (nor am I saying I will have time to do either).
Regardless, I want to make sure you know how much I appreciate the time you put into this. I really do, especially as my time is becoming more and more scarce

Todd
