Just sharing a few pics of my 40 gal breeder SW Louisiana tank. Sand is from the Calcasieu River, rocks (including fossilized sandstone animal burrows) are from Brazos River in TX, plants are from marsh and ponds around SW LA, fish were caught in FW marsh and the Calcasieu. The tank has a power compact and a regular fluorescent light. Filtration is a Penguin 200 and an Eheim 2213 (my old West German made workhorse). It gets weekly water changes and Seachem fertilizers added. Fish have been in the tank anywhere from one week to one year. All are doing great, but I added a hogchoker a couple of weeks ago, and have yet to see it eat. Trying different tricks currently...
Species list:
Weed shiner
Sabine shiner
Pallid shiner
Emerald shiner
Blacktail shiner
Sheepshead minnow
Rainwater killifish
Golden topminnow
Sailfin molly
Bluntnose darter
Scaly sand darter
Dusky darter
Hogchoker
Valisneria
Bacopa
Eleocharis
Cabomba
Watermilfoil
Banana lily
I had a bantam sunfish I grew up from a juvie over the past year until a couple of weeks ago when he decided to jump. I think he was watching too much diving on the Olympics.

Oh, and this is after I thinned about 1/2 of the tapegrass out a couple of weeks ago. It was going nuts.

That would make a nice entry into the Aquatic Gardeners' Association aquascaping contest biotope category.

There are so few north american biotopes represented there; it would be nice to have some attention drawn to NA fish.

Oh, and add pugnose minnow, bullhead minnow, and Mississippi silvery minnow to the list of what's in the tank.
