Wow you really through in a surprise bomb at the end of your question. LOL.

The species of sunfish that are best with plants are likely to be a light snack for a yellow bullhead.

I also think that a yellow bullhead would be like a bull in a china shop in a planted tank. I could be mistaken on this and welcome opposing viewpoints.

Most of the bigger sunfish that do well with bullheads tend to redecorate their tanks (especially the males) much like big cichlids.

IMHO, something's gonna have to give... either the bullheads or the plants, IMO, would have to go somewhere else.

I don't know about the bullhead, but I think a long-ear sufish would be just fine with everthing except maybe the java moss. The Enneacanthus species should all be fine.

Working on an "n=1" basis, we have a yellow bullhead in a 25 gallon tank with some yellowfins, C. venusta, and a creek chub, and the bullhead doesn't tear up the plants too bad. Now he started at about an inch and is now about 4 inches... and I know he will get bigger... but so far so good (although he did eat his way through a variety of tankmates until we got some larger specimens in place).

LOL thanks for everyones input. Yea I know mixing the bullheads with any tank mates has been tough. I have four, all when they were just >1". They have gone thru everyone. The best,, well longest tank mates were some pumpkinseeds. I found if I kept the kitties well feed they would mind there own, but needless to say there the only fish in the tank now. It doesn't help that I purposely feed them tough meals like crayfish and small frogs. I just really want some color in the tank go against the drift wood and gravel/sand substrate. I'll post what happens. Thanks everyone.
