I love Etheostoma osburni (candy darter). It's like a freshwater synchiropus splendidus (mandarin dragonette).

At the Convention me and Michael Wolf pointed out these holiday and season themed fish give you almost enough to make a calender with,

JANUARY: Since we start with winter the Winter Flounder will start it off
FEBRUARY: What better gift for a valentines love than roses, thus the rosefin shiner represents this month
MARCH: With St Patricks Day a green sunfish will be wearing green this month
APRIL: Well into spring now so a springfish (oir maybe a sprting pygmy sunfish) will represent this month
MAY: (can't think of one for may)
JUNE: A Summer Sucker for Summer
JULY: A Flagfish for the 4th of July
AUGUST: (Can't think of one for August)
SEPTEMBER: Fallfish ushering in Autumn
OCTOBER: Halloween Darter
NOVEMBER: Warrior Darter for Veterens Day
DECEMBER: Christmas Darter

Cool, but I would go with the Emerald Darter for St Patrick's Day (Ireland is the Emerald Isle) for March

May = time to plant the garden = Shovelnose Sturgeon

June = Could also use the June Sucker

For August - Dog days of Summer = Dogfish (Bowfin)
