I'm just wondering, how many northern longear sunfish could I keep in a 33 gallon tank? This tank is only for longear and currently, most of them are about 4-5 inches SL. Thanks.

With lots of structure or a partition you can keep several until a male goes into breeding mode.

Otherwise answer is very much a function of your intent with the fish. Breeding? Just for looks? Other behavior?

Fish you have are well into adulthood so will be most problematic.

IMO, the tank is small ( if your talking about the 33 gallon XL (48"x12"x12") as it doesn't allow for much room to run and hide (except the length of the tank.) The 33 gallon XL is what I use to breed plecos. Great floor plan for bottom dwelling fish and dwarf fish.

Thanks for all the advice. I should get a bigger tank instead. The two male longear I've seem to be aggresive now. I'm currently putting them in separate 10-gallon tank. The females are also in separate 10-gallon tank as well.

No tank is big enough for a sunfish "in the mood!"
