This came from a Petco goldfish feeder tank, up until now I thought he was a bluegill, but now that he's getting bigger I'm starting to have doubts. The body shape seems unbluegill-like and there's no dark dorsal spot. He's not this iridescent under normal light, it's from the flash. Also notice the red "stripe" on the eye, and the reddish-sienna tinge on the fins. Sorry for the horrible pic, it's the best I can do at the moment. Any input would be great, thanks.

it looks like a green sunfish, the mouth looks too large for bluegill and the body shape looks more like a green.

I'll go for green too, for reasons stated above. The mouth, especially, is very green-like.

I'll agree with green also, although I don't understand why you would focus on the lack of a dorsal spot as evidence against bluegill and for green. Green sunfish have the dorsal spot too, it is one thing they have in common with bluegill. They also usually (not always) have a spot on the anal fin, unlike bluegill. I have seen these reddish fins in juvenile greens, as it gets older, the red will fade and the spots will appear.

Do you see that there also appears to be some tiny pepper-like spots on this fish? That is also typical of greens.
