Welcome Will, there are quite a few NANFA members and forum members in your area, and they are rather active both here and out in the water. Take a look around and see what interests you. I think you will find that there is a lot of information here on the forum and over at the main NANFA homepage, www.nanfa.org

Welcome Will. I hail from SW Virginia but have done some collecting in NC as I have family in the Charlotte area. Let me know if you're looking to get in the water in NW NC or SW VA anytime!

You'll want to read those thoroughly and buy a fishing license so you can collect native fish legally. There are some limits that are easy to mention, such as that sunfish are game fish and can only be caught by rod and reel. There are limits on the seine sizes, too, so check out those rules before buying your fish collecting equipment.
