Hi I'm new to nanfa. I was looking at a grocery store fish section and saw a 4 ft tank crowded with white bass( and a couple of large mouths) I was heartbroken! So anyway I was thinking of saving a couple of white bass and re locating them into a drainage pond which does not lead to any lakes o other fish habitats.

No, no, please no. The risk of aquarium borne pathogens spreading is far too great. Whether the pond is isolated or not those fish will in some way make it back into the nutrient cycle. Whether the risk is small or great, I can't condone this action. I can understand your frustration but you're better off trying to forget about the issue.

Do it if it is a pond you can fish. We do not condone releasing fish, but if it is a contained pond, there is no difference than conventional stocking. You will spend more money than it's worth. Rescue some fish from a hatchery instead.

They are likely not very healthy coming from a grocery store tank.

If you buy them (any of them) it only incentivizes the store owner to get more and sell more. Buy them and eat them. And the grocery store owner will get you more next week. Buy then and put them in a tank and he will do the same thing. "Rescuing" such fish usually helps only the seller.

Very true Michael. Also the "rescue mentality" is counterproductive for the buyer. Why would anyone want to pay for culls?
