Has anyone spawned any of the Etheostoma sp's formerly known as speckled darters (E. stigmaeum)?

They are by far one of the most finicky darters to keep IMO.

Explain that Matt. Are they picky eaters? Or shy and not competitive? Or temperature sensitive?

I have never kept any so would like to learn from your experience.

I don't have any data, but I 2nd what Matt said. I've never been able to keep one of them or the Emerald Darter for more than a couple months.

You name it, they seem to be far from the ideal captive darter. They are quite picky about foods and easily bullied by other darters. Regardless of where they came from or the time of year they turned into skinny ghosts. I suspect it is in part due to not replicating their habitat and thus likely food, behavior, etc. They are typically found in sandy slow side pools and eddies. No one wants that in a fish tank, they want active darters in a riffle.
