So I've been reading on here about people going and looking through the feeder tanks and finding "treasure". So I went and looked around one of my local pet stores and, low and behold I see a small fish with a reddish tail and blue fins....a bluefin Killifish. The first time I've seen one. He was in with the Ghost shrimp, so I got some shrimp and the Killi! Pretty good fish "catching" week.

Cool Find

I usually find swamp darters
Twice bluegill
This month a green sunfish for the 1st time
And shiners, not sure on what types but for sure red shiners I've seen
And even dragon fly larvae and a water scorpion too

I can add Tadpole Madtoms, Largemouth Bass, Fundulus chrysotus, F.seminolis, F. similis, Gambusia affins, and Bullheads to the list of finds. I actually mistook the Largemouth for a Bluefin Killie! It was about an inch long, and it took a second look at the dorsal to realize what it was.

When I lived in Florida I found swamp darters in with the ghost shrimp. The only bluefin killies I found were in the lfs's "plant only" tanks. I've been in SC almost five years now and have yet to find any stowaway natives. Wonder why... Anyhow, enjoy your find. Bluefins are neat little fish.

I use to find occasional bluefin killies in with the feeder ghost shrimp they would sell at the Pet Supermarket store.
I don't think PS sells ghost shrimp where I live anymore.

Me too, and it wasn't until two of them doubled in size in the tank compared to the "other" (dwindling pop. of ) BFKs that I realized how Mr. Darwin's designs will take advantage of the unwary. If you are catching a bunch of bluefins and not paying much attention, it's easy to inadvertently keep a micro-bass.
That was a long time ago, when I was much younger and just getting into native fish. It would never happen to me now, of course. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
