Does anyone know where in Iowa I can collect orange spotted sunfish and what the best method of doing so is? I live in Scott County, so somewhere closer to here is preferred. Thanks!

Here is a link that has a list where they are supposed to occur: http://www.iowadnr.g...SpeciesCode=ORS I'd say Coralville Reservoir or Lake McBride would be the closest for you. Due to all the rain this year the Reservoir has been quite full from the Iowa river. Lake McBride though also higher than normal may be the better choice and it's only about 15-20 minutes from the reservoir. You can legally seine for Orange spotted in Iowa unlike most other sunfish which must be caught with line and hook. Odds are you'd have better luck using line and hook trying to get some of these the way the water levels are at this time. If you are ever interested in trying to get some I would be happy to meet up with you, I live in Cedar Rapids.

Any nice slow backsloughs, pools, or oxbows of the Mississippi near you? I hear Orangespots can be quite common there. Might not be ideal conditions with the rain though as Ken said...
