Is this fish a native?

I found a fish over the weekend that looked a lot like a small (1") pleco type fish in a north central TN creek. I was going to photograph it, but it wiggled free of my net before I could get it in the photo tank. The best I can describe it was that it was a very pale, light colored pleco like body. Not as long as a typical pleco, but short and stubby with a wide head and a dark black or brown band right around the dorsal fin. With my very limited, almost non-existant knowledge of fish genera, i dont know where to start to try and ID it.

It could be a madtom, a baby catfish, a released pleco, a stoneroller, or something else. The identification guide for native fishes of Tennessee is free here: http://forum.nanfa.o...essee-for-free/

Another possibility would be a sculpin, they're pleco-ish in terms of general head & body shape.

Thanks. I just needed somewhere to start so I can try and figure out what it was.

Edit: out of the above mentioned, the Sculpin looks the closest to what I found. Ill look through the book and see what I can come up with. I got such a limited view of the fish, so Ill just have to speculate a bit when perusing through the books. Thanks again.
