No, not referring to the stuff used to lure in ol' whisker-face. O:)

I have a different type question. I have a couple small, plastic tackle cases. They are of the kind meant for backpacks and chest wader pockets. One is waterproof, and they are quite convenient on the water. But they never, ever seem to lose that funky new plastic smell. I don't like it, and can't imagine too many other things that would. What are the chances this aroma might permeate tackle kept in it? I don't imagine metals would pick up too much, but I can imagine baits with wood, plastic, and fur/fiber components might.

Any thoughts from more accomplished fisher-folk than I on "stink transfer" and its impact on tackle's attractiveness to fish? Microfishing might only see this as a problem in regards to the types of lines used, but perhaps people out there are using microflies to microfish. Or perhaps live bait kept in one picks up the aroma, too?
