Hi, my first post here. I keep tropicals but I have a 150g that I'm looking to keep sunfish in. A little background. I live in a small town in Arkansas, and we are out in the country. We own a 600acre lake which we stocked carp, bass, catfish, crappie, and several sp. of sunfish. I've kept reef tanks and FW tropical tanks and this would be my first native tank. I would be taking the fish directly from my backdoor (literally).

I was fishing yesterday and caught what I call a green sunfish but judging from the fins (theres not much white around the edges) I think it may be a hybrid. Possible cross between with an auritus? Any guesses are appreciated! Thanks and nice to be here, this is a great forum.

I would agree I'm not seeing anything to indicate hybrid just a very large green sunfish.

After looking around, I figured it was just a greeny too and had another friend agree. I didn't weight or measure it but it could have easily been around 7 inches long.

Thanks for all the help. :)

Green sunfish are awesome. I have always liked them, you cannot go wrong keeping one. They eat just about anything, including most any prepared foods. They also become quite tame, but can be aggressive to other fish.

I finally have a male that is keeping orange edging on the fins. My big bull male has white edges. He spawns with the two females in with him non stop, and provides a lot of food for my smaller fish. The orange edged male is in another tank.
