Hey all :D/
Soooo excited to come across a natives community and organization!
I've been keeping natives on and off since I was just a squat...

Just changed over my 180g to natives two days ago... haven't kept them in over a decade. Really enjoying them again.
As my signature reads.. there are Pumpkinseeds, Red Breasteds, and Perch currently in there. 5 each of the sunfish and 2 perch which I almost didn't keep but now I'm glad I did... they have quite the personalities. I hope to soon add some pickerel or even pike in the future.

I have a plane full of CA's (central american cichlids) coming on Friday for a few of my other tanks so it's going to be quite the eventful week.

Thank you so much for a great community... I didn't realize so many were such fans.... looking forward to meeting everyone! :-

Welcome :)
Please feel free to share pictures of your fish and tanks. We've got a gallery you can host your native fish pictures here: http://gallery.nanfa.org/main.php
and you can put images in your posts using the button at the top of the post, the one that if you hover over it with the mouse says 'image'. We'd love to see your native tank :)

We've got this public forum here, which is free for everyone, and we've got a quarterly magazine, which only members get. Here's the link to join: http://www.nanfa.org/join.shtml
It's usually less cost to register for the convention every year if you're a member. The next one in 2014 is right near me in North Carolina, so I can attest to all the beautiful species to be seen. Here's the convention info: http://forum.nanfa.o...north-carolina/

Thanks so much Erica!
I posted some bass spawning pics etc last night in the link below, going to post some more of those pics tonight.

But I do need to pick up the camera soon. As I just collected my current natives a few days ago, I'm still acclimating them etc. The anchor worm treatment arrived today as a few do have some. I think once that clears up I take some shots. They are all eating frozen bloodworms like lil piggies... phase 2 of withholding food and soaking NLS pellets in garlic guard to train them about to commence.
Right now all I have is pics of my cichlids.

Oh, I'm *SO* in! Thanks for the link that's my next stop after finishing these replies
And... YAY I'm not the only gal around here
Why aren't more women into fishes??? Such wonders may never cease....
Sure wish I could make the convention... but alas, I work so many crazy hours.

Thanks again!

hi, it's great to meet another new hampshirite.

Definitely! I really enjoy your posts... I've been reading the forum quite a bit.
Do you keep a lot of what you collect? Do you have a fish room? Any pics of your setup(s)?
Know any good spots to get some pickerel in s/e to center NH?

Thanks again!

Heather, you seem very enthusiastic, and just what we want to see from native keepers. Take a good look around the forum, and website. This will familiarize you with our rules. They may seem odd to some, but as you delve deeper into NANFA, you will get a good feel for them. We try very hard with our hobby to conform to any state and federal regulations. You seem like the kind of person from the get go that understands this. I am glad that you have taken an interest. Please consider actually joining NANFA. Also our next convention should be quite fun. Looks like it will be in NC. Thanks, Matt.

Hi Matt.... yelp actually as a former Veterinary Technician, vet fish keeper, former Administrator of multiple vBulletin and IPB boards... and just all around humbly self proclaimed great gal.... I agree with what you mentioned.
I did actually peruse the rules and guidelines of both the society's and a few of the forums... and have discussed my collection habits with several New England state's Fish and Wildlife reps, who have actually all been outstanding to deal with... including NH over the years.

Have I already inadvertently violated something or inferred it? LOL  :- ](*,)
Or is this something you always mention to us newbies
Nice to "meet" you Matt!

No, keep up what you are doing. Just being a moderator, and encouraging you to actually read our rules. Many skip right past that, and then we have to deal with problems. Not getting on your case at all. Simply encouraging a new member. Seems like you get it already.

Why aren't more women into fishes??? Such wonders may never cease....

I think they are, it's just what the crowd is like already tends to influence new members. The fish club I run for my local area is vast majority female. *shrugs* New members need to feel comfortable around the existing members.
My youtube channel, which I think it the most objective measurement I have, says that my fish video viewers are 60% male, 40% female. So they exist. Maybe the game fishing crowd being so male dominated scares them away from outdoors+fish, I don't know.

Anyway, it's good to have you here! I can already tell we're going to be friends. Pumpkinseeds are awesome! :D
I've loved them ever since I saw them on the NANFA gallery:
