Hey y'all, I went with a buddy to net some gullies back home in Iota, Southwest Louisiana, and I caught this one catfish that I couldn't figure out what it was, so I was hoping y'all could let me know what species so I can possibly go catch one to keep. I didn't have a clear container for a better pic. Thanks in advance! Posted Image

What color are those chin barbels?

The 2 barbels under the jaw are white, with the rest being black

Steffan, that is a diagnostic characteristic that Skipjack is trying to lead you to see for yourself and which points you towards a likely species...

Yup this catfish is named for the color on the chin whiskers.

Does it have a deeply forked tail like a channel catfish, or a more rounded one like a bullhead. Does the bottom jaw protrude farther than the top like a flathead catfish. Once you eliminate what it likely is not, then you can move on to the importance of the whisker color.

Oh ok I see now, well the tail was not forked at all and the head was more rounded than anything, so my guess would be that it's a yellow bullhead, thanks for all the advice
