Someone on another forum posted a ghost shrimp feeder find thinking it was a pencil fish, but it looks more like a native minnow to me. The thread and pictures can be found here: http://www.plantedta...065#post4848065 . I can't say I have much of an idea, besides ambiguous minnow/killifish. Reminds me of a Lucania a little bit but no color? What do you guys think?

From the top of this sub-forum... do you really think this post meets these rules?
ID requests from home aquaria will not be accepted and topics will be removed. Please take the time to catch, photo and release unidentified fish streamside.
Location, at least general location (state, major drainage, etc) is required for any posts in this section. Posts without location will be removed without question.

As I recall we've generally allowed ID's of unknowns acquired from pet shops.
It's a bluefin killifish.

Michael - the rules reference might be worthy if Orangespotted had posted a picture of 'his' fish in this forum but he relates to a post in another forum and I think honestly just wanted to see if anyone else who had seen this potential native had a comment. I think I have seen other discussions on natives found at the pet store. At Christmas time this just seemed a bit harsh of a response.

And this is why we moderate as a team, with diverse opinions... it is also why I did not just hide the thing from the beginning... but now I have been appropriately reminded to be nice, and we can continue.

The faint, tight, vertical zigzag pattern which makes the lateral stripe makes for a good id, even without any body color.
A common find in feeder shrimp tanks. Keep checking throughout the year for more interesting finds. I have found Least Killies, Golden Topminnows, Seminole Killies, Flagfish, Swamp Darters in several local fish / pet shops. From Iowa it is a quick and easy way to visit Florida.

AMcC -- Zoom in and you'll see the tail is rounded, not forked like a shiner's would be.
O-spot -- Tell her to look in the shop's plant tanks too (if they keep plants separate from fish).
I sometimes find bluefin killies in there that arrived as eggs on plants from FL farms.
