Saw this odd minnow in the goldfish tank along with a normal rosy red minnow. While both have a similar coloring, this one has a much different jaw/face structure, with the jaw opening upward and being more narrow. Pictures tell better as I'm not good with minnows.
Sorry for debri, 6 tadpoles will do that.

That's a golden shiner, Notemigonus crysoleucas.

It's terribly skittish, I tried some betta pellets a few mins ago I'll see how that goes. Maybe being in with the cons who are also picky eaters will help him when I feed them brine shrimp?
He was pretty much just sitting on the bottom of the goldfish feeder tank... Probably couldn't get food with all those larger goldies around.

They're very skittish fish. They make suckers look like brave warriors. They seem to do very well in heavily planted tanks and with a lot of other fish (more eyes for them). But they are always the first to freak out. See if you can't get him to chill out and comfortable with something to hide around.

I've got a school of six that seem very comfortable that way, naturally schooling as they are. Mine are getting plenty fat on freeze-dried tubifex and bloodworms, as well as frozen brine shrimp. I'm sure they'd be happy with nearly any invert. they can get in their mouths.

They get pretty big too. I have caught them 7"+ on hook and line.

Your shiner would do a lot better with more golden shiners. Look for a bait shop near you, they typically carry them. Sometimes under names like "bass" or "pike" minnows depending on their size.
They can make for decent dithers but be warned, they grow large. The largest I ever caught was 8" but supposedly they can reach a foot long.

Getting large is no problem, I'd put it in a big tank with sunfish. (When I get it set up, which I have planned for June, got money and everything).

Kept him with some goldfish for awhile in a large tub, the goldfish wastes where getting hard to control and I'd lose some fish now and then (feeders for snake/frog). Didn't wanna lose him. Decided to keep him with my cons in a 20g long, didn't think and put him from a 50 degree coldwater tub into a warm 87 degree topical tank, he went into shock and died. Never thought it would happen to me. :*( Always adjust fish... Lesson learnt
