One of the first fish i ever collected was a pair of Green Sunfish. They soon cleaned out my entire tank quickly converting body mass. They are handsome and the males quite beautiful, the most Bass like of the Sunfish. They make great pets to hand feed and will even jump to reach a wiggling worm.
Be aware they grow and become mean greens.
A common farm pond fish and thus found in many many streams.

Plus they have an amazing knack for running up tiny intermittent creeks during high flow events, so you can often find them in isolated pools along with their fellow uber-headwater specialists the creek chub and blacknose dace, and in high floodplain pools with Gambusia.

Thanks everyone for all of the information. I am definitely on the hunt for natives at the local shops now. I have contacted all of them and asked to be put on the list of people to call when they get oddball fish in their feeder shipments. According to most of the stores, my phone will be ringing on a weekly basis.

Also, while they are still enjoying the Hikari pellets, I have found that they also go crazy for beef heart and brine shrimp. Being the hungry hungry hippos that they seem to be, I'm sure they would enjoy just about any sort of food that I offer. The best part is that they are already responding and interacting with me throughout the day.
