The Perfect Dipnet is Back! We have redesigned our most popular item, made by hand in the USA with materials made in the USA. See them and order here: http://jonahsaquariu...e/netdipnet.htm

Durable all aluminum, now with larger diameter, double walled handles for excellent reliability, whether fishing close to home or in exotic climes.

Same strong Monorail hoop design. Your netting is protected against the harshest surfaces. The netting itself never makes abrasive contact with stream bottom. It is shielded by hard aluminum in the internal hoop channel.

The solid aluminum connecting yoke strengthens the net at what is often the weakest point of other nets -- the junction of the handle and hoop.

The standard net bag is 1/8 inch mesh. Perfect for the small animals that aquarists and researchers are seeking. Most other nets on the market have larger mesh, and many desirable specimens are lost as a result. Four colors available: White, Black, Brown and Green.

We make these nets ourselves, by hand. We stand behind our workmanship. We collect fishes and other creatures, just like you. Our goal is to provide and use the best equipment at the best price.

All nets break down for travel and snap together in seconds so you can be in the water and get down to business. Keep one in your vehicle. Pack one in your suitcase. Put one in your backpack. Your next adventure awaits!

About time Mark. It was getting difficult to tell people how good they are, then say " but you can't get one now". Glad they are back. Sorry to say though, that you just wont have too many repeat customers. The things just last too darn long.

Mine has survived three Panama trips with use in high gradient mountain streams, and still looks news. A key feature is that it breaks down and fits just right in typical modern luggage.

I know, right? I should start doing the planned obsolescence thing. But then I wouldn't enjoy it as much. Thank you very much for telling people about the nets. NANFAns are my favorite folks!

Thank you for the endorsement, Bruce! I can't remember when I sold you yours, so it must have been quite a while. Maybe at the Alabama convention? Nothing's better than hearing about where the nets have been and what they have caught.

I bought the net from you in March 2011, and it soon went with me to Panama. Another good thing is that it hasn't triggered any paranoia going in and out of countries, on and off planes.

If you leave them go in a stream for a couple of weeks, they do eventually come back to you... but by then the netting needs to be replaced... check out this old thread for the rest of the story...

Mine has been to Costa Rica twice and Honduras once. I never had issues with the airlines and it worked perfectly. I have had mine for about ten years now and it still looks like new. I highly recommend these nets and their maker.

I've done a bit of air traveling with them. I've often wondered about having this weird metal thing in my bags. Never had a problem. But I always packed them in checked bags. Both domestic and international. Anyone ever carry one onto a plane? Since 9-11?

Mine's been around since the SC convention in 2004. Handles were one-piece back then. Most interesting thing caught was a young Amphiuma in a bottle. Named "Sharky" by the girl who kept him for many years, he now lives on display at the NC Museum of Natural Sciences in Raleigh.

I love looking through American Currents and trip reports and seeing all my fish buds with their Perfect Dipnets in the water.

Is there any real difference when using one mesh color or another?

These really are the best nets ever.

Mark can probably provide a better answer than me, but in my experience with all kinds of netting, black seems lasts longer. The dark colored netting doesn't appear to "break down" as quickly as white. It may have something to do with the reflection or abortion of UV light. I've noticed this mostly with nets that stay submerged in the water, or in direct sunlight for long periods of time (floating holding pens, bait nets that remain on docks, etc).

Regarding the collection of fish, you may have a different capture rate between the two colors (avoidance).

That's what I was getting at. I've had my black one for several years and it's in perfect shape, but I was wondering if anyone had experience suggesting that there was value in also having a white or green one.

I sent an email out for an order a few days ago and have yet to get a reply. Is this normal?. I figured I would have received a quick response.

I appologize! I watch carefully, and I was under the impression that I had responded to all the emails I had received. Of course I get a lot of junk too, so it may be that your email got lost in the shuffle. I will message you here via the forum, and if you want to try again, here is my email: jonah@jonahsaquarium.com If others are sending emails and not recieving a response, please let me know. There may be a problem with the system. I will need to get on that right away. Thanks! Oh, wait, you're in Ontario? I did send an email to someone there. Maybe check your spam filter. I worry about that since this address is on the web site and it gets passed around and may be flagged by some systems as suspect. This tech stuff gets complicated.

While we are on the subject, I picked up two nets at the 2007 convention and they are fantastic and despite having used them extensively in almost every habitat type (besides having to use them to shoo away alligators) they have served me incredibly well and show very little wear even now. A quality product if I've ever seen one.

I dye the 1/8" mesh myself, so whether or not that imparts any UV resistance, I don't know. Maybe marginally. My feeling is that the darker colors catch more fish in most situations. Even in an aquarium, I've frequently observed fishes darting _into_ a dark green net as an apparently programed flight response to seek shelter in perhaps vegetation or other dark cover. Maybe they're just looking for a shadow or hole to hide in. I haven't done any intentional tests, but I would expect the same dynamic, particularly in a stream where a white net is going to appear very bright against the stones, roots, plants and shadows of the stream. So a dark net should be less threatening and more inviting, I would think. One scenario where the white net might be preferred, would be a beach environment where everything is bright and well lit and no other cover is present. A dark net might be perceived as the shadow of a predator in that situation. Again, I haven't tested it. Even with seines that I use, I dye them or spray paint them dark green and brown, because, after many years of experience, I consider this advantageous and worth the effort.

I'll second that. I bought one years ago and used it extensively without any signs of wear. I accidentally left it with an old employer and will be ordering a new Perfect Dipnet from Mark very soon.
