JR of Conservation Fisheries is requesting a good freshwater copepod cultures they could either get or purchase. They wish to try some other food sources, especially for their Diamond Darters.

I was emptying my 55 gallon tank's stand today I found a few vials with 10,000 eggs each or something like that of rotifer cysts. They're dry so I could ship them no problem (just the cost of a stamp for me, consider it a donation
). I sent an e-mail to noturus@aol.com offering them if they'd like.
I've hatched them. They're pretty neat things. Gotta love life forms that are shelf stable.

I had some super-tiny harpactocoids that showed up in my Moina barrels last year. When things thaw out I'll look for them again.

After meaning to for the past few day, I finally went and captured a video of the critters in my tank. I see copepods and a round thing that could be moina or daphnia; it's hard to tell.

I didn't add them to the tank on purpose. It's possible they came in on the freshwater plants or the zucchini, or they were in the kitty litter clay I use as substrate. I don't know.

Most of those bugs are Cyclopoid copepods (Cyclops and relatives) - good food, but fast and evasive. I didn't see the round thing, but Ostracod is a good bet, especially if it has avoided being eaten in a tank with fish. Daphnia and Moina usually get snarfed up quick. They are all aquatic and must have come in with aquatic plants or fish - not on zucchini or dry kitty litter.
