G'day folks

Thought folks might find it interesting to know that our paper on mountain sucker phylogeny has just come out. The main change is we have elevated Pantosteus back to being a full genus as well as having elevated several old names via separating bluehead suckers into P. discobolus (Colorado Basin) & P. virescens (Bonneville/Snake basins) and mountain suckers into P. platyrhynchus (Bonneville/Snake basins), P. jordani (Missouri Basin), P. lahontan (Lahontan Basin) & the recently described P. bondi (Columbia-Lower Snake basins). Characters to diagnose each species are included. We also highlight the threatened status of remaining pure P. virescens populations which are extremely geographically limited.

Unmack, P.J., Dowling, T.E., Laitinen, N.J., Secor, C.L., Mayden, R.L., Shiozawa, D.K. & Smith, G.R. 2014. Influence of introgression and geological processes on phylogenetic relationships of western North American mountain suckers (Pantosteus, Catostomidae). PLoS One, 9(3): e90061.

The paper is open access, thus it can be downloaded / viewed free via http://www.plosone.o...al.pone.0090061

Cheers
Peter
