I'm getting ready to try to get some young from some Sailfin Shiners I've had for about a year. I have a school of 10 in a 55 gal tank right now. My question is when I pull them out to a 20 gal long to condition to spawn should I use the whole school or just pick out a trio? I've read Dick Stober's article on this and I think he used a trio, but I think that's all he had. What do you think?

I have spawned a couple of minnow species in the past and it seems that they are more comfortable in groups. Also I think you would get a lot more eggs from a larger group of fish. I have spawned southern redbelly dace and spotfin shiners both in groups and had several captive generations. Neither of these are at all related to your fish other than being minnows so take that for what it's worth.
