Dustin, the kind of editing I did in this photo is something I never do in my normal photos. I do fairly basic stuff to correct color balance/saturation and image tone/contrast as well as cropping (if needed). I say basic stuff, because it is in the photography world, but these things are actually not well understood by many underwater photographers. Anyway, I also sometimes remove distracting bits of debris floating in the water column. I don't do anything that alters the integrity of the original image like adding things, swapping backgrounds, or changing shapes. Honestly, while I do have good editing skills, the most important thing I do is spend a lot of time underwater (in the clearest water I can find), taking many thousands of photos and only ever showing the best 1-2% (not an exaggeration). A huge part of being a good photographer is putting in the effort to be at the right place at the right time to get quality material and then having the discipline to only ever show the very best of it.

Bingo Uland! Sorry guys, I was just having a little April fool's fun. People weren't catching on with the photo like I expected (I thought it would be more obvious), so I ratcheted it up with the fake stocking story. Originally the photo was of a completely normal longear. I reshaped the body to that of a green while keeping the longear colors. Both shape and color are important ID characteristics, and it's interesting to see how people react when they contradict each other. It's also kind of neat to see the body shape differences between the two species in this little animation:
You did a good job on the editing.

Dang, that's some skillful Photoshopping! Was that a lot of work?
