Are there any catfish in Illinois that I can breed in a 30 gallon.

Tadpole madtom would be a good candidate. Volume otherwise tight even for bullheads.

Dipnet or seine along the edge of slow moving low gradient streams or even marshes. In western Ohio they can even be found in some of the agricultural ditches. They are often in dense vegetation, woody debris, or over hanging roots along an undercut bank.
