Ive sampled these guys sympatrically with C. carolinae and the locality is just a bit further upstream than whats documented in Etnier and Starnes. This sculpin was sampled in the Little west fork of the Red River to the Cumberland in Montgomery Co. TN just below the confluence of Noahs Spring and Piney Fork. Looking forward to hearing some feedback. Thanks

I think you're probably right that it's bairdi. For one thing, I think that red/yellow band at the margin of the first dorsal fin might be a characteristic of bairdi and not carolinae, and the overall look seems more like bairdi to me. Are you able to accurately count the pectoral rays in the full-size image (or perhaps other images)? In any case, I'm sure some of the experts here will know which one it is.

The joined dorsal fin bases and incomplete lateral line should rule out Carolinae.

Thank you for the feedback guys. Ive always called them bairdi but now that Im having to survey all species for work I needed to be sure. Again, thanks for the help.
