I was wondering if an old swimmg pool of about 600 gallons qould be a good "tank" for a Tiger Muskie or Northern Pike, as well as bass, sunfish, perch, and crappies. Has anyone here had expeirience with this sort of renovation of old stuff for a fish habitat? Are Tiger Muskies more aggressive/get bigger than thier Northern Pike cousins? Thanks.

Ultimately not large enough. Ohio DNR reccommends one muskie per surface acre. Lose the Muskie plan, get a pickerel.
Being a hybrid, tiger muskie fall in between their parents in size, but grow to their ultimate size quicker (heterosis). Therefore their appetite, read aggression, equals their growth rate.

There's the rub. I don't have a readily accessible pickerel/gar habitat near me, as I'm on the West Coast in Northern Idaho. Also, I've got a small lake on my property full of dwarf bluegills (maybe hybridized) where Mr.Muskie could live when he begins eating water birds, muskrats, and fingers

...or I could just eat Mr.Muskie, mount his head as memorial with a plaque, reading: 'Here is Mr.Muskie. He was a pet until he grabbed my hand and bit it when I tried feeding him baby ducks. He tried to apologize, but the operation forced me to sell my house, computer, and other pets. So, crazed for food, I ate him. And that's that   (Sorry, ADHT  )

Rather funny! glad you are thinking ahead, and thinking of the future when it comes to these large fish. I would bet that you could find someone here that could spare a pickerel. Long term, you will find that you prefer their more reasonable size.

If you have a small lake on your property where you can later release the northern pike or tiger musky to thin out the sunfish you claim are stunted, then by all means get one.

State DNRs sometimes stock pike and or hybrids to thin out fish populations.

I am assuming the lake is private?

Yes, the lake in question (Dubbed Lake Reese after my family last name) has been in a rather bad state as of late. The black bullhead population there has got these yellow spots that, if pinched, begin to crawl away:-s When our property was still up for sale, somebody began dumping goldfish in there that I want to get rid of or at least eaten up by something. My brother caught a 26' inch pike on a bass crankbait and kept him in a horse trough on our property. We fed him some goldfish as to acclaimize to his new prey. He seems to be doing well. Canadian geese have been losing goslings to him I think. #-o

Fish lice? And if so, can anything be done about it?
