New here:) i have been reading a lot on here and haven't found much about housing males and females together. Is there a good ratio to go with? Referring to green sunfish and bluegill. Thanks!
I have a 75g

Very good question, Utah. You're likely to hear many opinions. It boils down to what you want to do. You could curb aggression and have several females living together. You could have a Fish-Wrestlemania and slam it full of males (not recommended). You could a couple males with 2 or 3 females to each male and hopefully form a few pairs.

Most of us like the dynamics of males and females living together. A lot of folks don't have the intention to breed but are pleasantly surprised when it happens. You do get to see many more behaviors when you mix sexes. Typically speaking, I would always have more females than males. Perhaps you would have success with 2.4 Greens in your 75gal.

Everyone has had different experiences but most started with trial and error. That's half the fun with fishkeeping. The habitat within your tank could also influence behaviors so there is that factor to consider too.

Most sunfish breed commonly in captivity. Greens certainly are on that list. I would also recommend getting a bunch of juveniles and raising them up. A pair or 2 will inevitably form. At that point you may have issues with recessive individuals getting picked on but we can touch on that later.

Good luck. Always exciting to start up a new fish tank!

On a side note, groups of sunfish smaller than 6 rarely tolerate each other for long...
