The NC Zoo near Asheboro has a LOT of forested land and emphasizes wide-open display areas (for large mammals). It's 1/2 hr drive south of Greensboro, and about 2 hrs from Raleigh and Charlotte. It's not an urban zoo.

Another NC job: Statewide aquatic sampling with the Biological assessment Unit of NC Div Water Resources -- the guys that collected all those fish & benthos samples that we used to compile our "shopping list" and intinerary at the NC convention.
