Friday 12 of us hit the road to find some snorkel sites, Casper, Michael, Issac, Andrew Z., Josh & Lauren, Guy W. & his daughter, Texas Nick & the Clarks and myself. Water clarity was an issue this whole day. Our first stop was at Three Top Mtn. Creek at its confluence with the North Fork of the New River, it was a nice spot but as we were leaving one of the locals stopped to talk to us and told us that they don't let the kids swim in it anymore due to the meth labs upstream. Wonderful.

Saturday we, Casper, Michael, Issac, Andrew Z., Texas Nick and myself took off for the South Toe River. In my opinion this was the best water clarity we had all weekend. We ended up about a mile downstream from one of the seining sites.

Excellent photos Bryce! I'm glad to see that you were able to get a good Mountain Redbelly Dace shot. That Striped Shiner had to be the best-looking one I have ever seen. I think your first and third unknown darters are fantails. The second unknown darter may be an Appalachia Darter (Matt and Gerald helped me ID a similar one from that day). I think the sculpin pretty much has to be a mottled.

Great photos Bryce! As always, thanks for sharing. Truly wonderful work. Your unidentified darters are fantails except for the first one from the south fork that is indeed an Appalachia darter (P. gymnocephala).

Excellent Photos Bryce! What a great time. Everyday we were immersed at some wonderful spot, what a great experience. I hope to work through my NC pictures after this year's snorkel season. I have done a bit of research on going back and it's something some of us should consider. The NC Forestry facility we stayed in has a couple of unique lodges set back that would sleep about 10 or 12 and with a kitchen to cook from, a big comfortable living room and video viewing equipment. There is so much more i wanted to see and do near Linville.
