Yes I've had Azolla grow pretty well at times under regular shop lights, but not reliably -- sometimes it just fizzles out. And it doesn't get as much red as it does outdoors in sun. Maybe with better lighting and open top it's more reliable. Ricciocarpus I find to be much easier and more reliable, and has a similar growth form (although unrelated -- Azolla is a fern, Ricciocarpus is a liverwort). I have heaps of Ricciocarpus if anybody needs some. It seems to be a great nutrient-eater and grows well even under a glass cover, which some floaters (like Pistia) don't like.

I have great luck with azolla it's everywhere, I separated out a culture from a local lake and I've had it for many years. I wouldn't mind a handful of that Ricciocarpus...

Ironic, both outdoors and indoors my Azolla out competes ricciocarpus. I use high yield LEDs but still.
