Just joined the forum. Actually, this is the first forum I've ever joined. My daughter and I have had a 10 gallon tank for 3 years with a betta and some corys. It's been fun, but I'm looking to go native now with a 55 gallon tank. I'd like to stay native to my area (West Central Indiana) with the fish, so what would be best suited to the bigger tank?

Welcome to the forum. You have some good NANFA members in your part of the country. I think it's great that you are looking to go native and even more that you are looking to stay local. Learning your local fishes first is a great way to go.

I think you should go with a stream tank. You have a lot of great shiners, chubs and darters right there in your streams that would make a great community tank.

That sounds good. I can just go down to the crick right by where I grew up and get all I need. Lots of good memories of wadefishing when I was a kid there. Thanks!

Study some first and make sure you know what you have before you bring anything home. There are lots of good reasons for that. From possible endangered species to just knowing what will not eat each other! And learning about your local nature is a big part of the native hobby.

Also take a look at the main NANFA we page and see what we are all about. Maybe even join us.

I would suggest a pair of orangethroat darters.
