Are there any good books that have information about keeping natives? Any that are only about natives or have a big cold-water/native section? I can't find any others. the only ones I have are:
North American Native Fishes for the Home Aquarium
American Aquarium Fishes (W. L. Moody Jr. Natural History Series)
native aquarium care books?

Those are the best two books that I know of. The big thing is that keeping them is not much different than tropicals. Lower temps obviously, but beyond that, unless you are breeding them, pretty similar. Just like tropicals, some do well on flakes, some don't. Some need live food some don't. Some need at least some frozen food, some don't. Really it is pretty simple.

agree with Matt. After reading those two , you pretty much can start collecting "Fishes of [pick your favorite state]." books. these don't talk much about aquarium care, but you can draw some conclusions by reading about preferred habitat, and life history and such. Look for fishes of Wisconsin and fishes of Tennessee... both of these are available free on line.

Along with those books already mentioned, Peterson Field Guide to Freshwater Fishes (Page & Burr, 2011) also provides some habitat information that can be helpful. Also don't forget about academic and "gray" literature (e.g., local conservation literature, government bulletins, etc.) that can have key information for your particular area.
