Flatheads are awesome. When mine makes a prey item disappear, you can feel the shock wave in your chest. Incredible speed and power.

I would like to see that. I have always been intrigued by them. Used to bank fish the Ohio for them quite a bit, 36 pounds was the largest I ever caught. Incredible predators. I fried up a smaller(12#) one once. My buddies and I agreed that it was much tastier than any other catfish we had eaten. I assume it has to do with diet.
I have never kept one in an aquarium. How fast do they grow? I assume not so quick, or the aquaculture industry would utilize them. Maybe they are just too predatory. How big is this guy Mark? Any photos? More info!

Hey Matt. Yeah, love this thing. It's maybe 16 or 17 inches at this point. Little ones grow quickly. I think they slow down as they mature. At that point, depends on temp and food intake. So you probably won't have a monster size fish too too quick. Even tiny ones are a terror as far as tankmates go, especially other Flatheads. I had several juveniles in a cooler once for transport. They chewed each others tails off. These were only 2-3" fish. They have the power to do serious damage quickly, regardless of their size. Love them! Might grab a photo if I have time and think of it. If anyone knows of a producer of this species, I'm looking for a supply.
