That's probably what it is. I was working at the zoo today so I stopped at the aquarium to get a picture of it.

Where can I get my hands on one?

That's a stoneroller. They are great. In Ohio, I can't name a stream more than 10 feet across that you can't find them in. Probably in the top 3 most common fish here. Can't be much different up there.

Oh ok. Do you know what species? Although I'll be happy with whatever species :). The way it was hovering the bottom it really looked like a sucker. Would it get along with 2 Greenside darters, 2 rainbiw darters, and 5 emerald shiners in a 20 tall for life?

Campostoma anomalum. Males can get a good 7 inches. They are fairly gentle. That 20, especially since it is a tall sounds pretty close to maxed out. It's up to you.

Ok, I might just wait until I setup a larger riffle tank then since I'd hate to out anything in a 20 tall that gets more than about 5".

Stock is still 2 Greensides, 2 rainbows, 1 bluefin killi, and 1 what I'm pretty sure is a Pugnose minnow. Tested nitrates earlier and they were 10-15 ppm roughly 5 days after the last water change. Going to up WCs to 25% twice a week to try to keep it below 10 ppm. That being said do I have any room bioload wise to add a small school of shiners or dace since I finally found a spot I can catch them without a net? And possibly another darter or two, but I don't want to push that, I'm more wanting some minnows for midwater action since the Pugnose and killi tag along with each other in the jungle of hornwort and water sprite I added to the tank a while back and I never see them a whole lot anymore other than feedings.

With a jungle of hornwort and water sprite, I am surprised that you have any nitrates. Do you need more light?

It's still pretty low compared to what my other tanks can get up to, which is why I change water twice a week now. I have a single strand T8 on for 12-14 hours a day, hornwort grows like crazy, water sprite is pretty slow though. Getting a new bulb tomorrow since the one in it is somewhat dull, who knows how old since I got it from a fish auction that came with a tank from 89, and it has a blue light which isn't the best for plants. I'm getting a bright yellow colored T8 tomorrow which I'm hoping will make growth insane. I'm going to assume I'm good on adding minnows then. If I have time in a few hours I'll probably go do some microfishing and trapping in a little drainage pool from my local creek with tons of small fish in it. I really need to get a seine so for now I just use an old beach towel in slack water as my net :).

Did some microfishing tonight. Only caught 3 creek chubs and some dace species before the rain let loose so nothing to show for tonight. I'll try again Monday or Tuesday.

Another update. Was at my LFS earlier and found a pair (male and female) of swamp darters and a male bluefin killi in a shrimp tank! Since they're southeast natives and legal to buy in pa of course I took them home and they're in my riffle tank now which is more just a planted native tank at this point. Maybe I can get the new male bluefin to breed with the female I have in there. Stock is now.

2 Rainbow Darters (2-2.5")
2 Greenside Darters (2-3")
2 Swamp Darters (1.25")
2 Bluefin Killifish (1.5")
1 Pugnose Minnow (1.5")

I know it's pushing it now but I think I'm still going to get 5 dace later this week since there's NO midwater action, even the killies and minnow stay on the bottom! I'm hoping the jungle of hornwort and water sprite plus 25% changes twice a week or 50% once a week will keep nitrates down enough for all these fish. Any opinions on this matter?

Went collecting last night and got 6 (2M:4F) Rosyface Shiners for the tank. It finally looks complete and there's life everywhere in the tank! Final stock is:

6 Rosyface Shiners
2 Greenside Darters
2 Rainbow Darters
2 Swamp Darters
2 Bluefin Killifish
1 Pugnose Minnow

I'm considering upgrading the tank size as the stock grows because all those fish adult size I predict will need more than a 20H to share the same tank. I think I'll upgrade to a 30L eventually.

Starting to think that what I thought were all Rosyface shiners and just males and females might be two separate species because they look very different. I'm looking through species of minnows that are around me to figure it out.

Got hit with a fungus outbreak that's pretty much cured up now so stock is down to 4 silverjaw minnows, 3 redside dace, 2 bluefin killifish, 2 Greenside darters, and 2 swamp darters. Hopefully I'll be getting a 30 long sometime this week that I'll be upgrading everything in this tank to. In your guys opinion though what would be a better stock for a 36"x12"x16" since I have some darters in another tank that I think would do good with the current stock but I'd also like to get more minnows, I don't have room for both.

Option 1)
*6 silverjaw minnows
*6 redside dace
*2 bluefin killies
*2 swamp darters
*2 Greenside darters

Option 2)
*4 Silverjaw Minnows
*4 redside dace
*2 bluefin killies
*2 swamp darters
*johhny darters
