The usual cruddy pics on my part, but the gestalt seems to confirm my field id of H. regius. They are in this drainage, but there isn't a record of 'em this far upstream though.

What do you all think?

Looks like a winner to me. I had to pull out a book though. Has that pointy Hybog dorsal.

Thanks, Matt. I kinda forgot the whole location requirement. Big Curltail Creek, Abbeville Co., SC. Small trib in the Savannah River system.

... and no trace of dark scale edging or stripe ... just plain silver ... and scales fall off easily. if you catch another get a closeup of the mouth from underneath: it's short and shaped like C rather than like U (most shiners).

Thanks, Gerald and Fritz. That scale dropping info is good a good nugget o' knowledge to have. I seined two of those fish yesterday, and both dropped scales when none of the other species did.

That ID is what I had come up with when I lived and collected/sampled in the Augusta - Savannah River area.

For what it is worth. Had problems with the rain of silver scales, like catching a Ladyfish in salt water.
