Position Description
Will review and assess existing federal or non-governmental regional fish passage prioritization efforts, tools, and resource gaps. Will support development of shared short- and long-term program goals for the hydropower, Restoration Center (RC), and Protected Resources (PR) staff. Will develop recommendations for coordination of efforts to maximize the impact on diadromous fish; coordinate the cross-program development of a national vision and fish passage strategy for priority-setting and increased alignment across RC and regional hydropower program fish passage efforts; and coordinate the development of national and regional graphics and maps of projects and watersheds where the regional hydropower program and RC programs have restored diadromous fish passage or where there may be future opportunities to restore fish passage. Will synthesize monitoring data collected across fish passage restoration projects and analyze diadromous fish return data prior to and after fish passage restoration efforts. Will construct messages and effective communication strategies that can be used to advance the programs.
Required Skills
2+ years of specialized experience relating to environmental management, policy, science. Demonstrated understanding of diadromous fish, diadromous fish habitat, and fish passage restoration, including barrier removal. Must have knowledge of the principles of coastal and marine habitat conservation and fisheries management. Requires experience applying natural resource policies and regulations, preferably in coastal and marine environments, and in developing and implementing conservation and restoration strategies at the landscape or watershed scale, including basic knowledge in geographic information systems (GIS). Must have demonstrated ability to work independently and to manage multiple tasks, and have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Must be able to pass a background investigation to obtain a security badge to enter the applicable government facility.
Education
BS in Environmental Management, Policy, Science, related discipline, or equivalent. MS preferred.
