Ok, I'm still rusty with the pic posting and doing uploading on free wifi so hard to have a good pic posting thread. These are random samples from a failed breeding attempt I made awhile ago. Difficult fish to photograph with any sort of satisfaction regarding depicting color. Back lighting was the key here, you'd never appreciate the red and yellow fins otherwise. unfortunately the flash steals some color from the front view. A few of these come close to capturing the essence. Maybe more to follow if there's interest.

Good looking fish. Wish I could get some down in Alabama, the next time around.

They did breed and I have better pics and even video. Sucks uploading pics at Starbucks, takes forever for the wifi. I'll put up more when I get time.

I failed to get any fry through stupid husbandry errors attributed to getting distracted be life events and ignoring the fish. They're not actually hard, except maybe the fry are tiny and have small mouths. I didn't have any good first foods on hand and by the time I collected some wild copepods etc, it was to late. I ended up putting the adults back in the display tank and their breeding tank got converted to saltwater to receive my new butterflyfish.

jetajockey, you're in the right place to get some more. O:)

I'm really hoping to get back to the Pan Handle next spring. We fell in love with the area this past Spring and the flagfins were only part of it.
There's a big redfish swimming somewhere in the Gulf with my fly in his jaw. I want it back.

Yes I may go this weekend to look for some. I've had no problem finding pt.hypselopterus but pt.signipinnis has proven a bit more elusive. I've found a few places but nowhere really loaded up.

Kinda funny how I got mine. We were on the way home with a 24 hour drive ahead of us, car packed to the ceiling and two young men with women waiting for them and I'm all "just a little detour to look for minnows". I had done some research and driven the back roads via google and had a road with several culverts all picked out. We pulled up to the first one, I looked down from the bridge and saw minnows. Grabbed my net, stuck it in the water and I kid you not, the whole school swam right up to see what it was.3 or 4 swam right into the net. I made one more sweep with the net and we were done. The whole thing took 3 minutes. Never even got my feet wet.
