Thinking Conneaut and Ashtabula. Any Ohio guys into this? Be my first time. Brian Z? Nate T? Matthew S?

I know, I know, they are not native here, but as an angler, I need to take advantage of this and have some fun. Others from Ohio, and other states please feel welcome. I welcome any input, and would certainly love fishing with others more steelhead savvy than myself. I am no slouch when it comes to a fly rod and trout, but am fairly naive when it comes to great lake tributary steelhead fishing.

If anyone is into this, let me know. Matt

This is how it starts; just a "little" Ohio steelhead dabbling, next thing you know it's a South Carolina lake trout habit you can't kick, until finally you end up homeless in the 'Glades as a hopeless peacock bass and oscar addict.

Don't say you weren't warned. ;)

Seriously,I'd love to go, but the whole "four states away" thing is a bit of a problem...

I lived on the east side when I was a Ohio guy... and I saw steelhead in the Grand and the Chagrin... I'll bet there is information on the MetroParks website about them.

Found it! http://www.lakemetro...ingreport.shtml

Matt,

I'll be on the west side of Cleveland during the weekend of November 15th and 16th. During one of those mornings, I should have some free time to show you around some steelhead streams. If you'd like to arrange something, shoot me an e-mail at NateTessler13@gmail.com.

-Nate

Awesome, I may be able to make that work Nate. I will know more about my November schedule by the end of the week. It would be good to catch up. Matt

I have been trying to make a trip up to north east Ohio to catch some Steelhead. Growing up in Milan I used to fish the Vermilion River for them during the spring run but have never made it east of Cleveland during the late fall and winter. I would be willing to tag along on a trip.
I work with Brian Zimmerman and I know he has expressed interest, I can ask him again tomorrow. Keep me posted

I will Jared. I am not sure whether to wait a bit for early spring, or try to go sooner. It would be ideal to try to hit it during the week to avoid weekend crowds. Conneaut is stocked by both Ohio and Pa. So as far as sheer numbers of fish, this seems to be the best stream. Also a bit farther from a metro area, so maybe less crowded. Also the Ashtabula is very close. Snug Harbor Bait and Tackle has a stream report for Conneaut. It is updated every day or two. 1 440 593 3755. Just press 1 for the updated recording.
