We are having a little holiday season fun with our dollars. A single male has been stocked into a 10' long tank with two elevated nest. He had not seen a lady since last summer so is having some problems even when an obviosly ripe female was added. He is all about aggression like he would be with another male. Female is so ready to go she is fighting back and showing him her goods. After giving him a little exposure, female was bagged off in corner so male hopefully will go from territorial to courtship mode. We are watching to see if he will now pull back and begin nest site preparation. Then we will let her out to see if his approach changes.

Interesting problem developed. Male owns entire tank resulting in two females being transferred to hospital tank. A single male has a very large territory (entire tank) just like a Redspotted Sunfish. Problem could be overridden with a partition but we decided to abort effort to pursue something much more interesting associated with nest constructing behavior of the Redspotted Sunfish. Dollar appears to do similar but on lesser scale so only Redspotted will be examined in detail. Same large tank will be used to facilitate measures of distance.
