I collected some moss by a creek recently and right now they are just sitting on the original soil/mud that was between them and some rocks. Can anyone tell me which moss this is? Also can any of these moss survive underwater?
Also I am thinking of replanting these on some rocks or store bought soil. Can the moss survive if the soil under it is washed off. This brings another question to mind, do they have a root system?

I don't think this is a moss that will survive long-term underwater. That said, see my comments here: http://forum.nanfa.o...?showtopic=1254. It does make a great terrarium plant, though. Do not wash off much of the dirt, as the clump will fall apart into a bunch of individual plants.

Mosses do not have a root system, or a vascular system at all for that matter. They do have a few cells that they use to anchor, but they move water through their tissues simply by osmosis.
