Wow, that gar is huge! Your fishing / swimming (lol) hole lacks some shade trees. Being in Texas you need some shade while fishing B)

Seeing that makes me want to catch a Musky this year (never caught one).

I hope they didn't kill it. That would be a shame.

The way the thread reads, I think it's safe to assume they do not kill them. On page two of the thread, there are several posts dedicated to the discussion of what hook set up they were using to try to make sure that the hooks would corrode out quickly..and the guy who posted the photos, talked about how tough the gullet of the fish was, and how they should easily survive after release.

From the way the whole thread reads it sounds like these guys are all catch and release. They catch, take a few nice pics to show and push them back in the water. Pretty awesome. One of them even says that these fish take too long to get that big to waste them. I've seen horrible pics of people that kill them for fun, it's pretty sad.
