I'm setting up a 40 gallon sunfish tank and a 20 gallon shiner/killi tank and I need some help.  I am going to do some amphipods and worms, probably ghost shrimp in both tanks as well.

But I was hoping to find a pretty, large snail for the tanks.  Now in one of the tanks, the shiner tank, I can put a couple of mystery snails from the amazon, as it's going to also contain fish from the caribbean (it's not a strict US native tank, more like north and central america tank).

But I want the tanks to be biotopes, so the mystery snail won't work for the native tank.  I am looking for something that won't eat my plants and is legal to bring into California.  Any ideas would be much appreciated.

You might get more input if you list what species are not legal in CA.

It's a very long list, but with the more common species, mostly it's the snails that you can't transport across state lines.  So the various apple snails.  Then again, those guys eat plants, so... meh.
