An added bonus is neoprenes with a stank funk so tenacious it clears out the crowds in Wally World even though you may have removed said waders almost half an hour ago....

 No, there are plenty of fish in the creek, and they are much easier to catch when they are floating on the surface, half dead. Better than a backpack shocker!
 

My waders have gotten ridiculous. I need to decontaminate them desperately.

Unfortunately, I put a dime sized hole clear through 'em on this last trip. Right above the ankle. Most of the other lacerations have been higher up, so I didn't get too wet and stayed warm enough even when I did. But this latest perforation takes on water as soon as I hit the water, and in big quantities. Time to break in a new pair and wait in line at Wally World. No more stank funk for me for a while. Savor the aroma while you can, Matt.
 
 

What did you find?

Not a ton, but hardly got skunked. Hit Stevens Creek in Modoc; scads upon scads of juvenile Etheostoma hopkinsi, plenty of juvie E. olmstedi, and a few Percina nigrofasciata. Managed one unaware Cyprinella nivea. Probably could've turned up more adult darters, and more whitefins if I'd gotten further away from shore, but I'm a chicken when it comes to getting too far away from shore in bigger waters I don't know well when I'm alone. The only other time I was there I was with Michael, and we scored some other fish a little further out. Actually worked from the Edgefield side to the McCormick side and back. BTW, Michael; there is a muuuuuch easier approach than the one we took, crossing that death-trap bridge.

Hit Gundy Creek where Key Rd crosses it. Complete waste of time; dead deer (well, half of one), a busted tv, and dog collar were on hand, but no fish.

Checked out a new spot on Stevens somewhere upstream of the Modoc spot. It's pretty cool, there's a new bridge over the creek, and the USFS has reworked the old one into a mountain bike/hiking bridge. Couldn't find easy access to the water (high banks) but I didn't have time for tromping around. Will go back and check some day. Probably makes for a real nice birding spot, too.

Found a new-to-me spot on Beaverdam Creek I want to check out again where Turkey Rd crosses. One side is posted, but the other side I don't believe is.

Embarrassed to say Matt, that mine are 8 or 9 years old, and have never been cleaned inside. The only thing that has kept the stank funk down is that usually at least while angling, I wade wet during the warmer months. I am just going to not worry about the stank, and regard them like a good cheese. Patagonia makes some tough waders.

Oddly enough not home to the modoc sucker. Possibly home to the big headed marvel villain M.O.D.O.K, though.

 

As for the title of this post, Happiness is the Ice Melting and the Weather Warming Up. I still have a few months to go sadly.

As for the post's title, I hear ya. In my heart I will always be a country Yankee, but there are many things I love about my adopted southern home. Not the least of which is 12 months a year of easy crick stompin'.
