I just saw this in the Maryland fishing guide book:

Under the "New for 2015" section,

"At the time of this printing, DNR was considering a statewide ban on the catch, use, or possession of live crayfish."

My question, being nearly invertebrate ignorant and not having been in Maryland in close to ten years is: "Why?"

Great new avatar, btw...

I think that the goal is to prevent the spread of invasive crayfish.  It's perfectly OK to possess dead ones for fishing, but no more fishing live crawdads.

Honestly, it doesn't affect me much because I fish with artificials.  I was curious how it would affect the MD native fish keepers.

Thanks for the compliment on the avatar Matt.  Mine is coming, yours is going :)  Maybe if we rotate each of ours 180 degrees, we can Frankenstein a new fish!
