The meeting went great! We had Ben Herzfeldt from the DNR come and talk to us about VHS and how it's effecting our native fish. It's really doing some damage to the native fishery. I'm going to post some handouts he donated to our newly forming affiliate club soon. Ben told us that due to the discovery of VHS in the Winnebago system and Lake Michigan, no one is permitted to take live fish from those waters. All fish leaving those waters MUST be killed before transport. Ben also said that if VHS is found in another inland lake of Wisconsin, outside of the Winnebago system, all taking of live fish from Wisconsin waters will be disallowed! That means that no one will be able to go and seine or net their own fish in Wisconsin. But, for those of you that pray, let's pray that that doesn't happen.
Next month, I will be speaking on responsible collecting techniques. When I say "responsibe", I mean collecting in a way so as to not transmit diseases/pathogens/exotics. We also may have Dr. Kristin Rowe, an ichthyologist veterinarian, come and speak about the fish import restrictions that are currently in effect in Wisconsin. You won't want to miss this meeting! Additionally, we will have a behind-the-scenes pre-meeting trip to the aquariums at Discovery World/Pier Wisconsin. Discovery World will be allowing us to come FREE OF CHARGE. This is an $18.00 per person value! You will be responsible for paying for your own parking, though. This will cost about $8.00 per car.
Anyway, for the pre-meeting trip, we will be meeting at Discovery World at 1:00pm on Saturday, July 14th. YOU MUST REGISTER WITH ME BEFORE THE TRIP TO ATTEND as I have to provide our hosts with a count of attendees before we come. Please call me or email me if you plan on attending. I will have to know how many adults, how many children ages 3-17, and how many children under 3 will be attending.
After the trip to Discovery World, we will be having our second affiliate club meeting in Grafton, WI. This will be at 6:00pm at the Baymont Inn and Suites. I'll post the address and other info later.

If there is a meeting about fish collecting, fishing, and outdoors in general, I'd like to go. Especially if I could pick up darters for less then 20 dollars a pop. This would be a great if it had stuff to do with other then just the aquarium hobby, then my father would like to go also. Please keep me informed via pm or something if there is a meeting like this, especially if there were fish for sale. THANKS.
