The park crew was removing the plants from McDonald pond on Long Island. As I ran by I saw these two guys flapping around in their pile. What are they? Fish one kind of looked like a perch.

First one looks like a sunfish, and I'll hazard a guess at maybe a longear? Better look at the gill covers would help.

Second one... I'm not sure. Looks almost tetra-ish. Or... maybe it's a really young sunfish.

All sunfish but shouldn't be any long ears on Long Island.

Thanks they are probably bluegills or pumpkin seeds.

larger one looks like pumpkinseed smaller one too small for even me to be sure but it looks like pumpkinseed or bluegill too.

After another look, I'm certain that the little guy is a baby sunny. I doubt anybody can tell what kind, though, it's very young.
