Thanks Brian. That's some helpful information. I don't have experience with silver redhorse, but I had ruled it out due to the concave dorsal fin on this fish. Good to know about the dorsal ray count as well.

Yes the shape of the fin can be useful particularly on larger ones. On a small fish that can sometimes be hard to see. Small silvers do usually at least have a straight dorsal but it usually does not quite look like the big convex fin of the adults.
